sweet moments
Artist: Audrey Tse
Audrey Tse (@aujuju_clay) is an artist based in the world's borough of Queens. Their work is inspired by themes that convey comfort and playfulness; the wavy, the rotund, the iridescent. They like to invite viewers to delve into an imagined space that celebrates the fantastical in the mundane, to spark small joys in our daily lives.
This ceramic cake, installed with the beguiling background, invited the question:
What are your small joys?
Here’s how our neighbors responded:
- walking past the tiny window gallery every morning on my way to work :)
- late night gab sessions with my sister
- a perfectly timed train transfer
- the vines on the building across the street changing colors!!Brewing tea at night time, cuddling my pigeon in the morning, the view outside the 7 train, the particular early-autumn combination of temperature and humidity that reminds me of my childhood, the top-loading mechanism of my CD player, and nice views when taking a walk.
P.s. I love this piece! Very beautiful and compelling. Made me stop and smile. I love iridescence. It is reminiscent of pigeons (my obsession). When my dog’s toe beans end up on mine when we're snuggling on the couch. Or I get a lil puff of snore across an ankle. Lil joyful moments with my dobie!
Stepping on crunchy leaves!
- being able to move my body
- breathing in the cold, crisp air
- getting enough sleepThe first sip of hot coffee on a cold morning
The sound of my best friend's laugh when I REALLY nail a joke
When my dog tail wags in a circle instead of back and forth (because I know that means she's super happy too)Running/being outside, baking for friends, correspondence time, voice notes, postcards, forest floor, soft and spongy dirt, homemade compost, mushrooms on trees
Finding small moments of beauty to brighten my (and others’) day: a bit of nature, an act of kindness, a work of art, a moment of peace.
watching the street sweeper back up to a big DSNY truck and unload all the fallen leaves they’ve vacuumed up. don’t know why but I get a big kick out of it.
