The Greenhouse

Summer 2026

At the Episcopal Mission In Sunnyside, we cherish the All Saints Church building and garden. It is a beautiful legacy of those who have gone before us. Part of our mission to find new ways for this space to be a blessing to the whole neighborhood.

For nearly 20 years, Q Studio Labs has been providing caring and creative early childhood education at All Saints. They were founded on the cellar level in 2008 as Amazing Magic Beans, and since 2016 they have used nearly the entire building Monday through Friday. A generation of young Sunnysiders fell in love with learning here, encouraged and empowered by Q Studio Labs’ dedicated educators.

Soon we will enter a new season: Q Studio Labs has decided to move out of the church, to a brand new building being completed at 50th St. and Barnett Avenue. This move will take place at the end of August. On behalf of the Episcopal Mission In Sunnyside, I want to thank Q Studio Labs for their partnership over the last 20 years, and wish them the very best in their next chapter.

Transitions are a time for discernment. As we have been preparing for this transition over the last year, the leadership team and I have been asking how we can live out our mission to show this neighborhood that “things which have been cast down are being raised up, and things which have grown old are being made new.” How does this big change represent an opportunity for us to expand and deepen our practice as a community that values creativity, solidarity, and integrity?

I am thrilled to announce three new partnerships that are grounded in those shared values. Come September, All Saints Church will become the new home of the Sunnyside Literacy Lab (founded by Anna Young), Citation Needed Press (led by Ari Wolff and Cristina Ferrigno), and Parenting Style playgroups (led by Janice Chou). You can learn more about each of these initiatives below.

Our shared dream is that these initiatives will anchor an ecosystem where our diverse community can plug in for nourishment in many forms: where together we can imagine new ways to respond constructively and creatively to the many challenges we face: as individuals and families, as a nation, and as a planet.

It’s clear to us that Anna, Ari, Cristina, and Janice are called to do the work they are doing. It’s also our dream that this ecosystem will not only sustain their callings, but help others discover their callings and incubate initiatives that don’t yet exist. So we’ve been calling this emerging ecosystem by a playful nickname: “the Greenhouse.”

We’re stepping into a new season—and the only thing that’s certain is that we’ll be changed by this. Faithful practice, deepening relationships, and expanding our network are sure to transform us. And, we trust they will help us realize God’s dream of a world where everyone has what they need to heal, to grow, and to share their gifts with a community that cherishes them.

Citation Needed Press

Citation Needed is a multidisciplinary arts and publishing initiative led by Ari Wolff and Cristina Ferrigno. They bring children, artists, and educators together to make books and imagine new ways of reading, writing, and communicating.

Citation Needed are partnering with us in Fall 2026 to offer Print + Build - after-school art classes for kids K-6. On Tuesdays and Thursdays, students will explore bookmaking, printmaking, sculpture, and collaborative world-building through ambitious, hands-on art projects. Get more information—and register—here!

Parenting Style Playgroups

Parenting Style is a community hub for families with infants and toddlers, founded by Janice Chou, a Certified Positive Discipline Educator and Montessori Guide (and a member of our Sunday morning worshiping community!) Parenting Style hosts unique playgroups that turn respectful parenting theory into active, everyday practice.

Their Positive Discipline playgroups give parents tools to lead with more calm and empathy, while their Montessori playgroups offer a gentle, first introduction to the classroom environment that builds independence and self-confidence.
