Friday, 24 April 2026 - Friday after the Third Sunday of Easter

Dear friends,

New life is happening everywhere. And that is getting especially real for our music director Ali Dineen and her husband Chris Schroth, and for my wife Meg and me, and our daughter Judy.

Both Ali and Meg are very pregnant (Meg: 37 weeks; Ali: 34 weeks).

And you know what happens when new life is happening, when big life transitions are happening? We show up for each other as a community. So stick around after the 10am Eucharist for some extra intergenerational art-making: together we’ll use fabric markers to decorate baby onesies with fun designs and encouraging messages.

So stick around to decorate a onesie during Coffee Hour this Sunday, and make a new friend while doing it! And—there’s lot’s of other great stuff happening in the coming weeks: see below.

p.s. When our baby comes, I’ll be gone for 2 weeks or so, falling in love with this new being and taking care of my family. Thanks to those who are stepping forward to help make Sundays work in my absence—maybe you can help too? There’s no pressure for this to be smooth: there will be loose ends, there will be stuff that gets missed and dropped: we can pick it up again. God is with us, no matter what.

On Saturday, April 18, the clergy and lay delegates of Long Island elected the Rev. Dr. Adam Shoemaker to serve as our next Bishop.

Shoemaker said, “I am deeply humbled by the trust this convention has placed in me and accept the call to serve as your next diocesan bishop with hope and faith in what God will do among us. I look forward to laboring together across the Diocese of Long Island as one body in Christ, and I ask your prayers as we begin this new chapter together.”

We hold Adam, his wife Courtney, and their three school-aged children in prayer as they prepare for a huge transition.

Pending the required consent of a majority of the Episcopal Church’s diocesan standing committees and bishops with jurisdiction, Shoemaker will be ordained and consecrated on September 19, 2026, at the Tilles Center in Greenvale, New York.
